André Calado - “We all this & more”

Lisbon, 1986.
He began painting regularly in 2009, after studying graphic design at the Ar.Co visual arts school in Lisbon. Interventions also began at that time through paste ups installed in urban spaces. Later, as an individual, he took part in some urban art festivals such as the “O Bairro I o Mundo” festival, or the first edition of the “Conversas na Rua” festival in 2015. In 2016, he took part in the Route 118 and Loures Arte Pública festivals. He was also one of the artists invited to take part in the urban art itinerary and artistic residencies developed in partnership between the EDP Foundation and Associação Coração Delta, specifically in the Campo Maior residency.

He lived in Denmark for seven years, where he established contact with local artists and produced murals for the Copenhagen Metro company (Byers Hegn), Reffen and Meny (a multinational Norwegian supermarket chain). In 2018, he founded a network of urban art tours and workshops in Copenhagen. He has produced around 300 works in countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Italy, Greece, Israel and Taiwan. He currently lives and produces in Nazaré.

The works are characterized by a dynamic and expressive style and combine elements of street art with collage techniques. The use of strong colors dominates the compositions, while the black, textured strokes draw figures and symbols that suggest a narrative that invites the viewer to explore the meanings of cults or intercultural themes. The type of art becomes dynamic, mixing different techniques and styles, which reflects a contemporary and experimental approach. The texture and layering of visual elements indicate an interest in depth and complexity, both in the aesthetic sense and in the concepts behind the work.
